Until 2005, non-Muslims were not permitted to stay overnight in Moulay Idriss. It is considered to be the holiest place in the the country. Moulay Idriss is named after the great-grandson of the Prophet Mohammed, Morocco’s most revered saint, and his body is buried within its walls. This hill top city is nestled at base of Mount Zerhoun, and is less than 5km from Volibus, the ruins of a nearly untouched ancient Roman city.
The picturesque whitewashed buildings, hillside walkways, incredible fresh markets and stunning people and make this holy city one of the most beautiful in Morocco.
