One of The Coolest Fucking Things I Have Ever Done

I had heard about this cave from another traveler who said it was A MUST... and I'm glad I listened. After being stalked by 2 small children at an Internet cafe, I gave in and booked a tour through their father. I hopped in a crappy rusted van and we barreled down the wicked dirt roads of Belize. True Angela travel style... the van broke down. After waiting 45 minutes, I ended up riding in the back of some guys truck down a long ass bumpy dirt road, but I ended up here... The Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave. After a short mile hike, we swam through this incredible entrance to get to the mouth of the cave. Three miles of scrambling over stalagmites and piles of fallen stalactites, bouldering giant rocks, wading through one foot wide crevasses in water up to your neck and venturing through swarms of bats, all led to a giant cathedral filled with Mayan sacrificial artifacts and skeletons, broken pottery from sacred blood letting ceremonies, skeletal proof of body modifications, all gently calcified under the beautiful ceiling of limestone stactities.... This was true spelunking.
